The Kärnan tower

Kärnan

The Kärnan tower, Helsingborg´s most famous landmark, has guarded the city for over 600 years. The ascent of the spiral staircase in the stair turret is strenuous, but well worth the effort. Every year, thousands of visitors enjoy the panoramic view from the top across the Sound. The tower is 34 metres high and the walls are 4,5 metres thick. After the end of the Danish-Swedish war, which lasted from 1675 to 1679, the buildings surrounding Kärnan were pulled down. In 1893-94, the tower was renovated, and the battlements at the top were rebuilt.
